Bowen therapy Featured

bowenWhat is Bowen?

Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and over-stimulation (fight or flight or freeze mode).
This holistic hands-on approach is gentle and is usually given over clothing. The practitioner rather than focusing on a single complaint addresses the body as a whole.
Bowen Technique "addresses the entire body" by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS) which controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. Healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance so the body can remember that it can heal itself (rest, relax and repair mode).Once body is in sympathetic mode than we can address specific conditions such as (knee/ankle or shoulder problems ....)

Bowen Technique

1. A typical "Bowen Technique session" generally lasts from 15minutes for baby up to 60 minutes
2. Clients usually lie on a massage table or may be seated in a chair if required, for comfort
3. A session is made up of different "procedures"
4. each procedure involves of several "sets of moves"
5. The moves are gentle, but purposeful, and can be done through light clothing
6. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for 2 minutes or for as many minutes as are needed for the client's body to begin responding.
7. A common approach in a session is to balance the entire body by addressing the lower back, then the upper back, and then the neck until body reaches para-sympathetic mode.

CAUTION:  Bowen side effects may include

  • reduced stress
  • increased energy
  • reduced pain
